Media Viewer - Remove below the fold info
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Mingle card at https://wikimedia.mingle.thoughtworks.com/projects/multimedia/cards/918

Goal: If we remove the below the fold info, is there a positive or a negative impact in the user experience?

I think the approach should be to ask users for different pieces of information (some of them above the fold, below, and in the File page), check how easy is to find each one, and ask how relevant it is for them to access this info on their day-to-day experience.

Due to instrumentation problems, the access to below the fold info was not properly measured.
After those issues were fixed, data shows that users access the below the fold area (1.4M) more often than the more prominent "more details" button (85K). This suggests that there may not be big issues in people scrolling in this context, which is consistent with some of the recent research in that area (1) (2).
