Add *.llgc.org.uk to $wgCopyUploadsDomains
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Please add the following domain to the wgCopyUploadsDomains whitelist, so that I can use GWToolset to upload media files from that domain. I have provided at least 3 example URLs to media files that will be uploaded with GWToolset.

hdl.handle.net/ (Only "hdl.handle.net/10107/" is required)

hdl.handle.net is a DOI redirection service.

From a DOI, it redirects the user to the actual URL of the article or other element.

Here, you want to whitelist delwedd.llgc.org.uk.

See for example http://delwedd.llgc.org.uk/delweddau/tir/tir03869.jpg and http://delwedd.llgc.org.uk/delweddau/tir/tir02720.jpg.

Commons trusted user Ælfgar has vouched this request.

@Jason.nlw You've set an high priority. When do you plan to start uploads?

Thanks for the prompt reply,

We are aware that this domain redirects to actual URL, and this has been discussed on the mailing list and at GWtoolset training in London a few weeks ago. We would like to try and use Handles instead of the URL as our URL is due to change before the end of the year. We think links are less likely to break in future by using handles.

delwedd.llgc.org.uk is a disseminator. The actual domain we want to link to via handle.net is dams.llgc.org.uk. This will also need to be white-listed. Emmanuel Engelhart has tested this by temporarily white-listing both domains, and it seemed to work fine.

Examples from dams.llgc.org.uk will follow shortly

Thanks

Jason

We were hoping to trial a small upload on Commons beta tomorrow.

Thanks for the clarification.

Yes, I concur handles would make sense to link to metadata, as they are more stable.

There are two URLs in use here:

  • the media description URL, for the image notice, where yes, handle could be used
  • the media URL, which has to match precisely the domains serving actually the picture

It seems the best course of action is to whitelist any subdomains of the library domain, ie *.llgc.org.uk, in the configuration, and to use in the tools hdl.handle.net for the notices.

Great, Thank you.

So just to confirm the following will all be white listed

dams.llgc.org.uk
hdl.handle.net/
delwedd.llgc.org.uk

Do you require any more details from me?

No, all is fine, thank you. We'll deploy this configuration change during our next deployment window at 15:00 UTC.

Brilliant.

Thank you all very much for your help!

You're welcome. Thank your for your contribution to Wikimedia Commons.
