(3) Allow users to arrow through all images in an article from the mobile media viewer
Closed, DuplicatePublic

Description

T101718
As a reader I want to see all the images in an article in a beautiful, intuitive way.

Being immersed in images is an important way to learn. Most modern sites allow users to quickly swipe through all the images on a page in a full-screen view.

A first step is allowing users to arrow through all the images in an article from the mobile media viewer.

Technical discussion
  • mobile.mediaViewer module is promoted from alpha to stable and all that that implies
  • mobile.mediaViewer.beta is merged into mobile.mediaViewer

I would welcome it to move this feature into the next step and a wider audience. Are there any concerns about pushing it to beta @Jdlrobson, @phuedx, @kaldari, @bmansurov, @Jhernandez?

@Florian: I suggest someone goes through the code for the alpha feature and report back on this task.

The code is really simple and beta - see mobile.mediaViewer.beta ResourceLoader module - (and has been working without any obvious problems for some time), it really needs someone to test it like crazy in beta for any edge cases. I think you can push this to stable pretty straight forwardly. @KHammerstein do you want to play around with it and get back to us?

@Jdlrobson I'm not sure, if it is really in beta, code says no: https://github.com/wikimedia/mediawiki-extensions-MobileFrontend/blob/2f4ad07ed2fbbc6d283c6ed895cac951deb58465/resources/mobile.mediaViewer/init.js#L5

(That's why i'm a friend of meaningful namens, and i know, you too :))

I'm using almost alpha mode when i surfing any MediaWiki running MobileFrontend, and i'm loving swyping through all images on a page, but it would be great if someone else can test a lot of things. I think the page i posted above is a good example: A lot of images, different sizes, different description lengths and so on :)

@Florian, I don't mind it if we move the code to beta.
