labnet1002

Description

As with virt1000/labcontrol, I'd like to have a second labnet box in eqiad as a spare. Setting up this second box should also assist with a graceful migration to Trusty.

Labnet1001's hardware is perfectly adequate, a similar or identical box will do nicely.

So we had to order a 10G card for labnet1001, we'll need to do the same for whatever system is allocated for labnet1002.

labnet1001 has the following:
2x Intel Xeon(R) CPU X5650 @ 2.67GHz (6 cores per cpu)
16GB Memory
10G network (added at time of allocation to existing server)
Dual SSDs/H310 but we don't care about it, it simply doesn't hurt this application any. (Since we have H310s in spares, this is nice to note.)

The possible choices are listed under EQIAD available spares: https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Server_Spares#EQIAD_Spare_Misc_Servers

In these, a few are good possibilities. None are 100% identical, so I prefer to list and let @Andrew advise on which would best suit.

Dell PowerEdge R410, Dual Intel Xeon X5650 (2.66 GHz), 48GB Memory, (2) 150GB Disks (Old lsearch)

  • same cpu, far more memory than needed, sata disks

Dell PowerEdge R610, Dual Intel Xeon E5650 (2.66GHz), 48GB Memory, Dual 120GB Intel SSD H700 512MB Raid Card

  • same cpu, far more memory than needed

Dell PowerEdge R610, dual Intel Xeon X5647 (2.93GHz/4core), 16 GB Memory

  • faster cpu but less cores, sata disks

I'll also note that none of the above systems have warranty still in effect. So the cost of the 10G card will be put into a non-warranty system, but we already approved and did this with labnet1001, so it seems likely that it would be approved for this as well (in particular since this is a secondary box for failover and upgrades, two out of warranty systems seem fine for this.)

No need for SSDs; lets go with the 410. Thanks.

I'm going to allocate WMF3153 for this role as labnet1002.
