The article "Digital Divisions of Work and Informational Magnetism: Mapping Participation in Wikipedia" by Graham, Straumann, and Hogan (2015) examines patterns of involvement in the online encyclopedia Wikipedia. Data on the distribution of edits to Wikipedia articles by different sorts of editors, such as administrators, bots, and non-administrator users, is analyzed by the authors. They discover that a small number of extremely active editors account for the majority of contributions, with a lengthy tail of less active authors.
