@Aklapper OK, let's see if I can give it a try... I never contributed to code here, where should I begin? I don't even know which language is used or where to find the source code ruling this function...

This issue is still present, such as on FR WP "Pages_en_impasse".
Any update on this?

Epok added a comment to T184941: Babel AutoCreate creating empty categories (already on page preview).

I confirm the creation of a category is immediately triggered just when a preview is done with a {{#babel:xx}} code on a page. I experienced this behavior of WP:FR. The creation should be done only when a page is saved with such a code.
