A 'lot'... does a third of a damn million qualify? It appears to be well over twice the existing capacity, just sitting there burning electricity to no actual purpose.

Yeah, I don't think that covers the file format. If it does, however, the patent would have expired about a decade ago.

As a further note, the deleted file, and page revisions, are visible from the history (when, of course, looking at deleted revisions).
Yes, nothing until I actually hit 'restore'. This is apparently quite uncommon, but a bit catastrophic when it does occur.
As an update, the first file I mentioned being unable to restore worked just now. The second still gives the error.

And yes, that seems to have sorted it. Weird.
Sorry, I did not mean that it affected the other thumbnail sizes, but that when I uploaded other versions of the same file with a slightly different crop that they had the same problem. Every other level of thumbnail, and use in articles, worked for every version, just not the one on the file description page.
