Do we really need to reserve 729,000 URLs for special use? Reserving 1-letter URLs makes sense, and maybe 2-letter, but 3-letter seems overly cautious, IMO.

As I've noted on the Meta talk page, a method should be found to set up memorable, 2- or 3-letter custom links for each Wikipedia (say /en for en.Wikipedia; /de for de.wp, /arz for arz.Wikipedia etc) and other projects.
I was asked whether T219707, which I created, should be merged here. My reply was that the two tickets are "Related, but not the same".

I'm very aware of the fact that Captions isn't ideal for alt texts, but it's better then ... no alt text at all.
Heads-up that there are already some questions and requests on https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Wikimedia_URL_Shortener

There is a similar proposal in T213778. Could this task be merged there?

Alas no; I lack the necessary skills. Happy to assist anyone who does, either in-person or remotely, with testing and documentation.

I doubt anybody enters de-0 in their babel box because they want that as a prioritized input option.
Please no. Captions are not, generally, suitable for use as alt attribute text. Please consult with screen reader users and/or accessibility professionals.

See here for an indication of how difficult it is to have a sensible discussion about, much less resolve, these kinds of issues:

It seems to me that new/ low activity users are those most likely to need to be guided like this.

This issue is being discussed at https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Project_chat#User_instructions_in_descriptions_are_harmful after it transpired that Siri had given an answer that a subject is "male - human who is male (use with Property:P21 sex or gender). For groups of males use with subclass of (P279)" (see attached screenshot:

Perhaps something that allows "stated as" (P1932) values to be easily fetched? See, for example, discussion at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template_talk:Infobox_person/Wikidata#Stated_as

Is https://github.com/zeko3991/Wikidata-references the most up to date code for this? Or was it moved to a WordPress-hosted Subversion repository?

Sadly, Zeko has not replied to my mails, since before Christmas. While hoping he is well, we must assume that he has abandoned this project. Can anyone else pick it up and complete it? Maybe at the hackathon?

Thanks. In that case, perhaps clearer labelling would be in order?
Ah, now I see what you mean - the short URL is to the embedded form - but then there is no short URL to the non-embedded form.
- Provide two buttons on the standard query one as presently, the other for a short link for the "embedded" form.
