I think the reason for helm test would be that you wouldn't have to create a new image, you could just use an existing mariadb helm chart as a subchart, but if you do want to go the route of building a node image with mariadb then I think integration/config would be the best place for it, and also the easiest way to get it published.

Another option is to use helm test (if you are planning to make a helm chart/deploy your service to kubernetes. Check the kask chart which uses cassandra for an example) or @dduvall suggested gitlab ci services. What do you think?

Thanks for the update @Jdlrobson. I think it will be fine to backport tomorrow since there are still remaining blockers but in the case those get fixed before you do I may go ahead and backport.
