Per the discussion at https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_Diskussion:Kurier#Discussion_tools this is ready to be offered to the German-language Wikipedia as a default-OFF, opt-in-only Beta Feature as soon as it's convenient for the team.

@Jack_who_built_the_house, the team's wondering whether this should be handled as a config change (have to get a dev if you want to change it) or as a MediaWiki: message, which could be changed locally by any interface-admin. This might only be used at ruwiki, so I'd like to know what you recommend.

Yes, these are the same things.

We're creating a single central task for that: T276510: Enable people to choose asterisk or colon for indentation on a per-comment basis

At ruwiki (especially), editors want to be able to decide whether to use : or * for a first reply. Is this the best task to represent that feature request?
Mar 2 2021
It might be possible to handle this as part of T265750: Make it easy to "outdent" by changing the colons/list level.

The main concern raised at this discussion was the Reply tool replying to * with *: instead of **.

T184761: Logged-out users should be able to temporarily suppress microsurveys is for a short-term 'stop bothering me' option.

@ifried should this be closed as already implemented?
Please see https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Talk_pages_project/Notifications and especially the discussion at https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Topic:W3c084ihivgkm9vt especially if you have specific use cases or examples to share.

I've told all of these wikis that the test is underway. The announcement locations are the same as in T273406: Announce start of A/B test and if the original was archived, I've linked to it.

This happened again. This time, I didn't switch. I just copied and pasted some wikitext (from a diff) that contained some refs. It auto-converted the refs, but the contents of the ref tags were corrupted. I haven't figured out what the minimal test case is.

Possibly related to this: What happens if a second section appears on the same page with the same section heading?
First reported at https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia_talk:Talk_pages_project&oldid= 1006053606#Experiences by @Earwig in Chrome+Firefox on macOS and @Thryduulf in Firefox on Xubuntu, and verified by me in Safari on macOS.

I think that getting a Special characters item is important and increasingly urgent. This tool is beginning to reach more people whose everyday script doesn't use only basic ASCII characters.
Jan 28 2021
Yes, I agree that it makes the most sense to have this on https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/New_requirements_for_user_signatures It should, however, be a separate section or otherwise marked as an extension to the previous discussion (e.g., "Part 2" or "2021 addition"). We need to be clear about what's already been decided vs this new thing.

You're wonderful, @AntiCompositeNumber. Thank you.
I want to make new screenshots for this page and https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:DiscussionTools
That makes sense. It should be easy enough to strip those names out of the lists by hand. There aren't that many of them, and I think it only affects the "mismatched" error, which isn't the most common.
Update: https://signatures.toolforge.org/ seems to misclassify people with & and ' (and maybe other characters) as having a mismatch between the username and custom signature. Perhaps ~10% of the people contacted on enwiki recently were false positives.

I think that @Esanders is familiar with this area.
On the question of Subject (or headline – maybe that's actually heading?) and Comment vs Title and Description, have you considered using the labels that would be familiar from e-mail? Starting a message on a talk page is a bit like sending an e-mail message to a group mailing list. Also, "Title" already has a specific meaning on wiki.
For the "Action people take to publish/create the Object", the label is "Publish page", not "Publish changes".

I've updated the task description to deal with the people who have never fiddled with their prefs.

- @Whatamidoing-WMF: can you please review the task description's "Setting defaults" section within the ===Requirements heading?
...this section describes an initial approach for how people at ar, cs and hu will experience the New Discussion Tool by default and I'd like to know whether anything about what's described is concerning to you.
The task description mentions radio buttons. I think a checkbox would be more normal.

For anyone who's interested, the all-time total is about 3,500 accounts right now. Many of these were new editors who have only used it once. (The overall attrition rate for new accounts is very high.)
