Colin added a comment to T218089: Thumbnail fails with 500 Internal Server Error for original image file with 241MB.

This appears to be quite an old bug that has been reported before. It isn't so much that the source is large but that the requested thumbnail is large. The thumbnailer had limits on size/memory for generated thumbnails. All these files generate thumbnails no problem, as long as the thumbnails aren't too large.
A solution I have used in the past to to upload a 50% size version of an image for those who can't view the full-size one and when the zoom browser isn't working. It would be nice if the thumbnailer could generate smaller versions of any size, though probably not a pressing issue for Wikipedia.

File:Royal Albert Hall - Central View Square.jpg is bigger both in megapixels (238.61 Megapixel) and filesize (84.29 MB) and thumbnails fine. Indeed the File Description page for that contains links to smaller versions such as 33% which use the thumbnailer. The thumbnailer will refuse to generate a 50% thumb as this is too large.

I believe it does. Thanks.

Giles, perhaps you could post your findings on my test page (start a discussion on Talk if you like). I'm confused about your results, and need more info about your setup/monitor/any calibration/profiling you have done. Makes me wonder if you have set your OS to a profile that does not actually correspond with your monitor (or accidentally changed the mode on your monitor). Anyway, this is getting off topic.

Interesting. I wonder what % of DCI-P3 the phone display supports. Apparently the latest imac supports close to 100%. However, I read:

Colin added a comment to T66795: Email server's DMARC config prevents users from sending emails via Special:EmailUser.

Why are these email bug reports not being dealt with? One suggestion, that huge groups of people get told that special:email is broken for them, is just unacceptable. The solution is trivial:

Giles, I'm not very familiar with gerrit or php but think I'm looking at the latest code. I assume

I can only guess that it wasn't appreciated that DeviceModelDesc wasn't mandatory. The previous code only engaged when it found a match, so if we had an sRGB profile without that field, then the worst that could happen was we used a larger sRGB rather than the smaller TinyRGB. But the new logic engages when a field is not found (with the assumption that this means there is no profile present at all). And the worse that could happen is that we replace a non-sRGB profile with TinyRGB and the colours are changed.

I don't think the logic is quite correct. It is assuming that if DeviceModelDesc is missing then there is no profile. This is not a safe assumption. Both the TinyRGB and AdobeRGB sample JPG files lack this field, for example. Details of the ICC profile spec can be found

Colin added a comment to T134886: Special:EmailUser emails sometimes not delivered due to bounce.

Above, someone suggests informing users their email failed and this is questioned "we are sending an email again to a bounced user". But I get emails just fine from other users and from the server (someone has written on my talk page, etc, etc). So in principle, you can send me emails just fine. The issue (for me at least) is that some recipients of my emails don't get them (but they get emails from other people via wiki just fine) and I don't get a copy email.

I'm struggling to see what the reason for delay is. I get emails from wiki all the time, when people write to my talk page. So that works just fine. If certain domains of email address provider are rejecting your spoofed emails for wiki-user-email, or the email gets bounced, then just send a mail as you do for notifications, and include the address in the body. This is surely a few hours work?

Further to my earlier comment, I have managed to send one email to someone with their own personal email address (don't know who manages their domain for them) but failed for others on gmail or hotmail and I myself have a yahoo.co.uk address. So this is probably specific to the addresses. I didn't get a confirmation email, however.

I may be suffering from this issue. I have been unable to send emails to other users on Commons for some months. When I send them, they do not receive the email nor do I get the copy email. But they do get a notification to say someone sent an email. Please can someone investigate why my emails don't work. Thanks

Colin added a comment to T97253: Exif values retrieved incorrectly if they appear before IFD.

I'd like to add my voice to those requesting this fix ASAP. We've had yet another post to the Village Pump from users wondering why their EXIF data is displayed incorrectly. This wastes people's time investigating if there is a problem with their own image software.
