Thanks for these use cases @Jheald -- they are very interesting, and I appreciate you explaining the demand as well. We're trying to finish the prototype for the Commons Query Service by the end of the month, so I don't think we can incorporate them in this first iteration, but we should consider them for the next. Copying @dr0ptp4kt so he's aware of these use cases for his machine vision conversations as well.

Thanks for commenting, @Jheald. Can you share what you would use this capability for?

This looks very promising! I'd like to go over it with @SandraF_WMF when she gets back first week of August to consider the GLAM perspective.

@alaa_wmde , as @Lucas_Werkmeister_WMDE says, we do indeed have a clear use case for MediaInfo now--we need to be able to find the M entity that is added to lua syntax on Commons. Can you please include this use case in your redesign?

@greg heads up, sir, we're planning on using test Commons through September, per our chat.
May 29 2019
Sweet--looking forward to it. Thanks so much for the update, Mr. Manicki :)
Hullo @alaa_wmde , do you have a rough eta for this? Inquiring minds want to tell other inquiring minds :)

Greg said we could keep TestCommons until the end of Sept, if we notify his team as to what we're doing and why.

I feel like SDC captions satisfies the use cases in the task description. Can we close this task?

Here's a fresh image on which I could not save a caption while logged out: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Alberi_AlpediSiusi.JPG
Huh, works now, and on files in similar categories. Not sure what happened :/

What came out of standup?

Should we get legal involved too? (fodder for our Wednesday meeting, Amanda?)
Totes, I've added it to the Wed agenda.

Hi @matmarex , thanks for the feedback. The message really is necessary :) Legal and Design approved the way it is now, but we'll continue to think about how we might improve it as we continue to make changes to upload wizard.

Those aren't categories, those are Wikidata items containing the concept of Commons categories. :-(

Strangely, I now do not see a German caption for the image in my original screenshot:
But I still do in another image:

@WMDE-leszek have you had a chance to think about how WMDE might implement this? Are you able to share any timeframe?

@Jdforrester-WMF i remember a thread or ticket about this?

Decision on what a "better" precision is. StructuredDataOnCommons wants second precision?

The Multimedia team is working on the MediaInfo API in Q2. It will deliver structured metadata for media on Commons.

Sati and I also did further research on what metrics are important to program organizers a year or two after that, leading up to the grant metrics tool. @Shouston_WMF, do you remember where any of that research ended up?
EDIT: Ha, I see you are part of planning this and probably already thinking of the research we did. Carry on!
Aug 23 2018
@MarkTraceur , any movement on this after you talked to Greg? Anything I can do to help?
Aug 14 2018
Would it be possible for you to take up from that, and add a bit more detail re possibilities with structured data, and for perhaps creating IIIF-friendly manifests with annotations ?

fyi @Keegan, "Users should avoid large-scale edits that would be broken by a rollback until we're reasonably sure a rollback isn't going to be needed."

A statement traversal issue:
When I search for media of "woman", most media including notable women such as Michelle Obama won't be returned. The depicts statements on those images will usually link to the actual person, who are stated as "instance of: human" and "gender: female". Same applies when searching for man, girl, boy, cyclist, painter, etc.

Does this happen? When I click on the media thumbnail, I'm taken to the file page.

@Addshore, the MCR pert says you and Katie are working on this, and I see you wrote a related gerrit patch. Should this be assigned to you?
@Anomie, what is this task blocked by?
@Anomie what is this task blocked by? Is it the code review Piotr is doing?

You may want to share the Sheet you created a few years back!
How have I not shared that here yet? This list is incomplete and mostly out of date, but I was interested in tools that program organizers used to manage, track, and measure their programs. It is here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1iUvZZStf8k6RYdJYl2DLIxRdtCgWSYzEay5cCQg8MyE/edit?usp=sharing

There's also a big IIIF working meeting in Toronto coming up in October; if there's serious interest I should probably pop in to that too, or else someone else from multimedia if there's interest in moving forward with stuff more directly.
