I mostly edit medical content over on English Wikipedia. Not a programmer myself but have a lot of ideas that can benefit from the skills of programmers :-)

It would be good to have the starting language selector limited to just the
languages the SVG is currently in.
Most of the time peoples default language will be the one they are translating into, rather than the one they are translating from. For the OWID SVG effort the starting language is going to be generally EN. But for SVGs overall there could be various languages as the starting language.

99.9% of the time source language for out efforts will be English but it
would be good to be able to change it

Agree good idea and it is on the list of things to get to. https://mdwiki.org/wiki/WikiProjectMed:OWID#OwidSlider:Graphs

I am hoping the upload tool is working better and is not introducing this issue. Let me know if you find more like this.
Not sure if there is anything we can do from the Wiki Project Med side of things to support adding this functionality to the app. App of course is managed by WMF staff. Happy to discuss.
Yes this is an issue when a black file name ends up in the template behind the tool. Fixed it like this https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template%3AOWID%2Fdeath_rate_from_opioid_use&diff=1164601902&oldid=1108687429

The question is do our readers watch videos on our platform? This is a question we do not know the answer to as we have never had this data. Getting this data is key to increasing video efforts within our movement. I highly support this work as being of top priority. @Yaron_Koren has done some work within this area.

Okay started here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Village_pump_(technical)#Video_and_audio_plays For sure you can begin a conversation on German Wikipedia, that would be great.
Will start the conversation on EN WP.
Dec 2 2025
Okay so we have video and audio views live and functional on Basque Wikipedia.

Would be good to have it remember if "Suggestion machine translation" was selected between an individuals users sessions.
Sep 11 2025
And sometimes people will simple want to close the third column to reduce clutter
Sep 6 2025
Ah good to now. Would still be nice to have full screen on the desktop
version so people do not need to know they need to switch to mobile to get
full screen.
Sep 5 2025
Mobile version only available for certain languages still correct?
Sep 4 2025
This is a request from those working on smaller screens. One can pop it
open when they need the tools.
Sep 3 2025
Yes @HangmansDeath the plan is for the Upload wizard to be able to change the EXIF for the image itself.
Aug 16 2025
We definitely need both for people who want to remove location data. We do
not want people having to go to other software to do it. And we need a
mechanism to help those out who uploaded location data by mistake without
having to publicly broadcast it on Conmons
Aug 6 2025
Basically blanking this does not remove the EXIF data. I want a button that says "Remove location data" within the upload wizard. Right now we basically allow commons contributors homes / word to be often be easier found.
I just tested upload wizard. There is a warning beside the geolocation data with a link to more instructions on how you can use other software to remove this. It then shows the geolocation data and allows you to edit it or blank it. I blanked the geo location data and contained to upload the file. The file still contains the geolocation data. This is so not initiative for a lay user.https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wikimania2025atAirport.jpg

We have transitions to a different structure for health content which you can see here https://mdwiki.toolforge.org/Translation_Dashboard/index.php?camp=Main&code=fa&type=lead&doit=Do+it
Jul 29 2025
Okay thanks, we are funding Yaron to help with this work and hopefully make some headway with more video specific metrics.
Jul 28 2025
This is something we at VideoWiki would love to see. Accurate metrics for number of plays of videos and duration of video played. Andrew do you plan to look at that second bit?
Jun 9 2025
Am fine with this covering both
Jan 16 2025
If they work on retry, could we not just have mwoffliner, retry when it gets an error such as this? I know that functionality would help us at MDWiki aswell.
Dec 20 2024
Hey All, this if of critical importance for us at Wiki Project Med as we build offline distribution devices called Internet-in-a-Box from these ZIMs. We are in the process of assembling an 500 units as demand for offline is high. The most recent EN WP ZIM is from January of 2024. Hope to see this fixed soon.

So Ryan has updated UnlinkedWikibase; however, I am only seeing the three
languages that are listed locally... not all languages still
Nov 29 2024
Thanks Sam

I am not sure if we have progress on getting a wikidata sidebar link?
Oct 30 2024
That makes sense. Will if pull in all the language links with one request?
And then the wiki data element in the sidebar with another request?
Oct 25 2024
We have language links partly working. But it is hit and miss and not sure why?

Sep 9 2024
We were able to adjust the tool to make this happen. If we were to do the development would you be willing to review our code changes?
Aug 10 2024
We at Wiki Project Med would love the ability to add lists based on MDWiki... We basically put articles once they are ready to be translated into a category. This allows us the ability to only suggest well developed articles for translation. https://mdwiki.org/wiki/Category:RTT @Ainali how would I add this category as a list to Wikidata?
Aug 4 2024
We are on the interwiki map as mdwiki https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Interwiki_map
Jul 14 2024
We will work on fixing the video cut tool on Commons. https://videocuttool.wmcloud.org/
Jul 7 2024
Jun 30 2024
Started after adding this video to the infobox
Jun 13 2024
Yes we are creating short animations of still images without sound. These are then to be used within the videowiki tool, at which point multiple media files are stitched together and text to speech sound is added. One can see an example here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:VideoWiki/Tuberculosis
Jun 10 2024
Yes agree with your suggestion to use En.MD.Video
Jun 8 2024
Fixed by Ryan
Jun 6 2024
Brian figured it out. We just needed to add this page https://nccommons.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Lang
Jun 1 2024
I am thinking we should go with the shorter version, ie replace "Wikipedia-VideoWiki" with simply "Video"

Every article on MDWiki does list the Wikidata ID at the top if that helps https://mdwiki.org/w/index.php?title=Gout&action=edit
So what we are doing meshes closely with VideoWiki but should be standalone. We are looking at creating a number of tools that make short video segments. So lets apply for another project...
Would be wonderful if we could have the system believe that MDWiki is a language like Simple EN...
Basically we want to feed two peices of data to a new tool on the wmcloud that then takes this data and creates a short video which it uploads to commons. The data could be handed to the tool via a url such as like in this template https://mdwiki.org/wiki/Video:Sandbox
May 11 2024
I am thinking that these template should be external to VideoWiki
As I think about the best way to implement these additional functions, I am thinking this template should begin as
May 8 2024
All the languages of Wikipedia are stored here, so basically want the system to pretend MDWiki is a language of Wikipedia, just like Simple Wikipedia is.
May 6 2024
Okay we appear to have this solved...
May 5 2024
Okay found the answer here https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:DiscussionTools/Magic_words_and_markup
Okay @Bawolff figured out the issue. It is something called DiscussionTools https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:DiscussionTools
Further details
I have made both the EN WP and MDWiki articles exactly the same. And they still return different results via the API.

yes exactly, used to work but no longer works
