@violetto : There are no color contrast requirements at A level.

Regarding color contrast. Originally the criteria to achieve AA success required more contrast than it does now. If I'm not mistaken, the minimum criteria was lowered because it was too difficult to apply in most situations. The color palette that designers were left with was too restrained.

@violetto : Regarding the priorities for AA and AAA, I think the best answer comes from the W3C.

Have you taken into account people with photophobia ? These people need light colors for the text, and dark background. But no pure white or anything too bright.
