Apologies if the fix is something on my end (e.g., a header or parameter). I read the other phabricator ticket and didn't see a workaround on my end.

Thanks, @Demian
In an embarrassing twist, I didn't properly test the code I fixed before I added it here.
- that should say "add the following line" not "edit"

There were two uploads today in English from the US, so it probably isn't a language issue.

Note: if you run this query as a normal user, it will succeed. It only fails when logged in as a bot or administrator with the higher limits.

I apologize but I still can't access it. Can you show me what I'm doing wrong?

I've attached the HAR generated by Chrome. I've have blanked everything that looked like session or location data.

It only happens when I'm logged in as administrator or as a bot. Both of these have a higher API limits than the average users.

Yes, I've noticed for a week or two this has been fixed. Many thanks.

It's always been a Commons-only page. I've been noticing the bugs for many months now, possibly over a year.

I looked at this for a bit. I cannot do any fixes client-side, except perhaps some temporary hack which would introduce risk anyway.

I agree this is confusing for end-users. Can anyone point me to a tutorial for changing Wikimedia Viewer content with userland Javascript?

I switched my tool and I'm having an issue with file uploads. I am not sure if this is due to changes in PHP or if this is due to a storage issue. Honestly any help would be appreciated.

If you have the time, please do. It's quite possible I won't be around for a day or two in time to catch it.

@Bawolff I have exclusively noticed this for thumbnails. I don't know if it occurs for full URLs.

Anomie et al.: I'm very sorry. I've been sloppy and turned this bug report into a mess.

Seems to still be happening: https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ALog&page=File%3A1401722+584804688240214+106694765+o.jpg fails the Facebook filter I provided above.

Addendum: actually I think it's impossible to continue the query at all, even if the bot understands the error. The only way to get around it is to remove the item from the query and to start over.

This is now occurring on Commons as well.
