Is there any way for us (editors of osm wiki) to know which offending icon gets rerequested? Or even at least part of problematic file list?

With main comment probably in https://github.com/openstreetmap/operations/issues/764#issuecomment-1309837536

To be clear: egg-and-chicken problem is even worse and WMF taking maps seriously would not be sufficient for me to contribute beyond some feedback like above about not trying to fit as much as OSM Carto (OSM default map style), unless you want the same problems or figured out way to avoid them.

following roughly the pattern established by OSM as their default tile set

This feature could be really beneficial for users who have no idea how to navigate Wikimedia Commons categories

See discussion at https://pl.m.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?oldid=62598516#InternetArchiveBot about blocking the bot
Note that bot was blocked due to low quality edits, including misleading edits descriptions, see https://pl.m.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?oldid=62598516#InternetArchiveBot
Note that it is one of problems that resulted in blocking bot at Polish Wikipedia.

Would it be possible to avoid introducing this blacklisting of PHP versions in minor release 1.35.2?
Is 1.35.2 going to be released with this PHP restriction?
Maybe we should have a tag/branch pointer that points to the "latest released" version.
"Well when we wrote that we understood that the branch only got updates as things were released." ( https://github.com/openstreetmap/operations/issues/511#issuecomment-786314181 )

Is it deliberate that it was included in a minor release of Mediawiki suddenly broke down on certain PHP versions?

Databases with more restrictive licenses than CC0 are useless for re-users

Or is thousands of individuals adding these entries by hand also a concern?

R2 sounds excellent. It covers main legal issue that absolutely needs resolving.

Another example of "lets ignore copyright": https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:OpenStreetMap had no mention whatsoever that imports from OSM to Wikidata are against OSM license and are not allowed or explaining that US law ignores Wikidata to ignore ODBL and that reusers of Wikidata are obligated to ensure that they are not using it anywhere where it is not true (I just added section mentioning this issue).
TLDR: It would be also helpful to create equivalent of https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Copyright_rules - about how copyright affects what can be added and how Wikidata content may be used.

In my opinion ideal documentation is not only documenting code (classes etc) and usage but structure of project (is it active, where one may report bugs, send patches...).
