Heads up, I installed Mediawiki from the site itself, followed the manual, and so far have had no issues with Visual Editor. I initially installed through my hosting provider, Siteground, and it seems like there were some issues with the installation itself?

Unfortunately, I don't have root access as I'm on a shared server, so I think I don't have access to an Apache config file. Thank you for pointing me to #T265043 though, I'll see what I can find!

@kghlbn Thank you for the follow-up and the tip! I've removed $wgScriptExtension from LocalSettings.

I did some snooping on my end; had a fresh install of Mediawiki 1.35.1 ready to go. Visual Editor works right out the box, but as you said, the second you shorten the link, everything breaks and we get a 404. I found that editing my .htaccess file didn't do anything, but the second I added

Sorry to hijack this post, but I'm getting this error message as well. I suspect it has something to do with editing the LocalSettings file to get shorter wiki links as described in T270376, but I can't be too sure. I think I've configured my wiki to be a private wiki, but I'm not sure if that affects it as well, as I had the issue before I even changed the editing permissions.

I'm also having this issue. I've tried the troubleshooting steps provided on the extension page, but to no avail. I think my wiki is a private wiki...don't know if that has anything to do with the issue.
