I'm not so sure. I've seen pallette icons used to refer to appearance or theme settings in other apps but I don't think I've ever seen this floor tile-esque icon (certainly not in this kind of context) and I imagine it might cause more confusion for users.

I'm not sure if this idea has already been considered and discarded, but what about a paint palette (🎨) icon? I feel like that's pretty commonly used on other sites/apps (especially for colour themes) and in my opinion it conveys the ideas of "appearance" and "customisation" pretty well

I didn't want to close or rename the initial task in case that would tread on anyone's toes, but at this point it's probably worth skipping OOUI (unless adopting it then Codex makes it easier to switch?)

I'm personally not a fan of the boxier look - if anything, I would've rounded them more - but if you are going to make them angular - with a major theme of the redesign being "increased consistency" - it's a bit weird that (e.g.) the Star and Bell icons - which aren't exactly hidden or rarely used - seem to be more rounded...

do I understand correctly that you want to use the desktop version on mobile? if so, as far as I know this task should help you because you won't be sent m. links that force you onto the mobile version

would it be worth refocusing this task on Codex/closing this task and replacing it with a Codex one?

As someone who's used V22 for quite a while, this one personally trips me up from time to time - it wouldn't take up that much space and would be a lot easier to use if the link was always visible without opening the menu

My personal reading of that discussion was that it was largely a reaction to the previous, broken version of the icon and that most people were opposed to it because it was the broken version - I suspect that, if reran now, the RFC would have a different result. The consensus also doesn't feel that clear-cut to me - I see quite a few people in favour of the new icon, so I'm not entirely convinced that it was accurately evaluated/closed.

Privacy is my main concern here - any implementation of this feature would have to make it clear that this information is public/the implications of this
