As someone who's used V22 for quite a while, this one personally trips me up from time to time - it wouldn't take up that much space and would be a lot easier to use if the link was always visible without opening the menu

My personal reading of that discussion was that it was largely a reaction to the previous, broken version of the icon and that most people were opposed to it because it was the broken version - I suspect that, if reran now, the RFC would have a different result. The consensus also doesn't feel that clear-cut to me - I see quite a few people in favour of the new icon, so I'm not entirely convinced that it was accurately evaluated/closed.

Privacy is my main concern here - any implementation of this feature would have to make it clear that this information is public/the implications of this

Any news on this? While enabling syntax highlighting itself by default on enwiki is blocked on a few smaller issues issues, there don't seem (to me at least) to be any blockers for globally enabling the colour changes.

Since both 1.35 and a compatible SMW version has been released, as far as I can tell this is no longer stalled (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)

I would like to note that there are valid use-cases for editing talk pages without creating sections (especially when creating one) - for example, adding templates (eg WikiProject templates/assessments or certain maintenance templates), configuring archival bots or (in some cases) formatting comments.

The issue is back.
