I can't figure out the rank selector, and it was taking too much time. I discussed it with Lucas before his holiday and suggested that I leave it for someone else or pair program with someone to figure it out. The other parts, tho, have been worked on and are ready for review

I don't understand or see the difference between this ticket and what has already been done by T405238

So from my perspective, Option 1 is the better choice. Since I’m not that experienced, going by what I've read here, the simplicity and maintainability of Option 1 seems more straightforward since Option 2 will risk messing up existing functionality and overall complexity.
