Oooh I see. Thank you for explaining that. In that case, I agree with you that this could be done. I don’t think it’s really necessary; it should be enough to display a warning on the File:Name.jpg page saying that File:Name.png also exists; but I also don’t see any issue with your suggestion.

you could upload a different file type over a file with the wrong extension

@Mr._Starfleet_Command — Absolutely not. That is even worse. Now you can’t replace JPEGs with PNGs or SVGs at all. Bad idea.
