Hi @cmadeo I hope you're doing well. To answer your question, I tried both importing the component from Figma to Penpot and recreating it from scratch in Penpot. When it comes to the import process, I found that while it does offer a decent level of compatibility, there are some limitations to consider. For example, certain Figma features—like auto layout properties, component variants, or even some effects—might not translate perfectly, which can lead to manual adjustments after importing. From a UX perspective, this can make the workflow feel more time-consuming or less straightforward, especially if you're used to Figma's intuitive interface and specific shortcuts. Penpot's interface, while user-friendly, has a different logic and layout that may require some adjustment. However, if you approach the process with flexibility, it’s manageable, especially for those familiar with multiple design tools.
One of the main takeaways for me was the need to be adaptive and understand that shortcuts and certain tools aren’t always consistent across platforms. This can initially slow down productivity, but with some practice, the transition becomes smoother. I also found that Penpot’s open-source nature provides unique benefits for customization and collaboration that can outweigh the initial learning curve.
