I retried the upload and it worked this time.
The script I'm referring to is the one at commons:Help:Chunked upload. To my knowledge, it's the only tool used for chunked uploads outside of Commons. In the past it has always handled retrying chunks that time out, and the last change was to a dependency way back in 2021.

I've been repeatedly running into this issue. (During upload, not deletion, like in T129621 which was marked as a duplicate of this.)

Is this issue being prioritized at all? As more public domain works are getting released with HDR, this is becoming a pain point.

Tested on enwiki and verified that a 4GB file was now able to upload with async enabled.
@Bawolff It worked! The new version is uploaded at enwiki:File:The_Adventures_of_Prince_Achmed_(1926).webm.

Files that are public domain in the U.S. but not in the country of origin are allowed on English Wikipedia but not Wikimedia Commons.

I'm not sure, but I think I had tried both settings and gotten errors. To verify, I retried this file with and without stash/async enabled, and it failed both times.

I tried uploading two smaller files using the chunked upload script today (one 371 MB, the other 426 MB) and both succeeded. This file, however, still failed after the last chunk. Here's the error data:
I don't think I tried to upload it to Commons, it's not public domain in its country of origin so it would only be suitable for English Wikipedia.
