Any action on this? Normally this wouldn't bug me, but having to put in a 2FA token EVERY time is almost convincing me to deactivate 2FA because entering it multiple times a day is a bit ridiculous. Without 2FA I just have my password auto-filled by my password manager so it's no big deal - but this "security" feature is really having the opposite effect.

I would like to implore the Language Team to see if they have any suggestions on a good implementation of this. T243863 hasn't had any real progress on it, and there are two issues that could potentially be addressed simultaneously.

1. I used to be more active in anti-spam, but I have largely given up due to the lack of tools to be able to effectively mitigate them. How much time you spend depends on how in-depth you go. You can easily just lock the lists of 20+ spambot accounts posted on SRG, without doing any checks or blocking the underlying IPs/ranges. It takes much longer if you're looking into the underlying IPs/ranges, and checking for potential collateral damage for blocks.

This may be related to T249335, I am having a similar issue with the API on metawiki.

OTRS Ticket#2019081310000247 is another example. I think a reasonable solution is to create a globalgrouppermission to Global IP block exempt that would allow a user to create an account even if their IP is locally blocked.

I was able to reproduce this while trying to use it on zhwiki, and the deletions I had were not even successful. Keep in mind, I was trying to delete on a wiki I was not a sysop, but had deletion permissions for (as a steward).

I agree that there should be some established procedure for cases where it becomes apparent action needs to be taken on a closed wiki.
