@Librerui, thank you for getting back to us and giving good notes. It is good you were able to get successfully updated to WBS 8.1.

A small documentation update is proposed in https://github.com/wmde/wikibase-suite/pull/975 for this. It documents the supported provider-neutral approach (configuring an external SMTP relay through MediaWiki’s normal LocalSettings.php), and a link to the related upstream MediaWiki documentation.

Current status:

Current status: The wikibase/wbs-tools image and accompanying shell script command at development/wbs in the repo as the needed infrastructure for the Wikibase Suite Web-based Installer. The installation procedure and other common WBS service operations (up, down, configure, reset, etc) are available in that CLI variant but are not yet exposed as part of the released product pending further user testing and product decisions.

Reset and setup-state handling has been evaluated and implemented around persisted InstanceSettings.php and the WBS lifecycle commands. Initial setup values are now ignored by the Wikibase image after installation. I would vote to close this ticket as the remaining issue doesn't have a solution other than a different configuration architecture beyond a .env file which I see as out-of-scope for this ticket and for later consideration.

Hi @Librerui thanks for reporting this, and sorry to hear you've been having this issue.

docker-compose.override.yml the default docker compose included file for overrides is now ignored by the repo, allowing the user to add their own service and settings to existing services without modifying our WBS packaged docker-compose.yml. This option is mentioned in WBS documentation.

We have deprecated the use of NX for our development/test/release tooling so this is no longer relevant.

Work was recently completed as an implicit part of the new WBS 8 development/test/release tooling. To check and update dependencies for all images, including Wikibase, WDQS, WDQS Frontend, and QuickStatemetns run development/wbs-dev update for a guided update procedure.

Agree. I looked into the current state of Wikibase Pingback, and I think we should consider removing the feature rather than updating its locking code.

Wikibase Suite is indeed staged for the MW 1.46-based WBS 8 major release tomorrow--and this does give pause. Our current MediaWiki 1.45-based release (WBS 7) is equally exposed, but an announced release will hopefully encourage new installations and therefore increase overall exposure.
