I believe that,As it is currently, using the mediawiki search function, there appears to be no direct image search. Any search that returns images is text-based. as it is currentlyTo find a picture of a banana, the only criteria one can specify in an image search are: who uploaded, you have to search for "banana" and won't find banana1.jpg. when or file sizeSo good luck with that. For many image searches this is way useless.Maybe if captioning has been done "accurately" throughout, One criterion that could be easily introduced as an option is Category.ie according to your needs, Allor if you are inspired to use the right search term ...
There is one place where you can browse image filess visually, in fact all media fand that is: "title=Special:ListFiles,". already know and display which pages link to each fileThis Special Page shows all images as thumbnails along with some info. It should be a relatively easy matter to configure an image search to return results restricIt can be optionally sorted to a specified categoryby date, as the wiki will also know which categories those linking pages belong tofile size and name but none of these sorts are particularly useful. Then,Marginally more useful is the ability to limit the list by specifying the uploading user. fifty thumbnails at a time in the category i am interested in will be all RELEVANTBut if i don't know who uploaded the image i'm trying to my inquiry.find, This can reduce search returns by 90% or more,i'm out of luck. no small triumph inEven more so if i want to compare a big wikiunch of images.
If this is already possible,Another option that could be easily introduced in this Special Page is Category. All image files, in fact all media files, already know and display which pages link to each file. i and my wiki admin have not found it.It should be a relatively easy matter to configure this ListFiles page to restrict results to a specified category, If it is currently in development,as the wiki will also know which categories those linking pages belong to. greatThen, i'd like to hear about how it's goingonly thumbnails in the category i am interested in will be displayed and they will be RELEVANT to my inquiry. If neitherThis can reduce what i have to plough through by 90% or more, it looks to me like something that wsould be both easy and usefulno small triumph in a big wiki.
