Some pages and Wikipedias have implemented new workflows and affordances [1][2][3] to make it easier for people, across experience levels, to start new discussion threads.
This task is about understanding and documenting these different approaches so we can identify the design patterns we ought to consider incorporating into the workflow we will design in T243248.
=== Slide components
//For each intervention we will be curious to know and see the following...//
- What does the intervention look like?
- How does the intervention work?
- What problem(s) do you think the intervention is intended to solve?
- What do you think we can learn from this intervention?
=== Workflows and affordances to explore
//This section will require research//@ppelberg and @Whatamidoing-WMF are continuing to add to this section.//
1. On the French Wikipedia's wikitext talk pages, there is an "Ajouter un sujet" link at the bottom of each talk page to help people more easily start conversations regardless of where they are on the talk page.
2. On English Wikipedia's Teahouse, there is a large "Ask a question" button at the top of the page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Teahouse
3. The English WIkipedia's `{{Talk header}}` template includes a link that states: "Click here to start a new topic.": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Talk_header
4. Some editors, such as [this one at cswiki](https://cs.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diskuse_s_wikipedistou:Janbery), have put buttons at the top of their user talk pages, which leads to `?action=edit§ion=new`.
5. On the French Wikipedia's "Request to administrators" page, they have a button at the top of the talk page that reads "Make a new request." Upon clicking it, people are shown the `?action=edit§ion=new` form along with a some pre-populated content to help people submit requests in the specified format. See: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikip%C3%A9dia:Requ%C3%AAte_aux_administrateurs.
=== Open questions
- [ ] What – if any – user testing should we conduct to better understand how effective these workflows and affordances are at making the process for starting new conversations easier and more intuitive?
=== Done
- [ ] A slide deck containing the "Slide components" above
- [ ] All "Open questions" above are resolved
