By the next release (1.33), MediaWiki should no longer support writing to //only// the MCR-unaware legacy revision storage schema. That is, the WRITE_OLD mode of $wgMultiContentRevisionSchemaMigrationStage should no longer be supported, only WRITE_BOTH (and perhaps WRITE_NEW) should be supported.
