Comparing my [[ https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Vogone/test | test maplink ]] and the [[ https://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/2202162#map=8/50.073/4.554 | OSM equivalent ]] it becomes obvious that the shape of France is not being rendered in the maplink as it should be. For countries with less complex borders than France this issue does not seem to exist, hence this might be related.
