This is similar to transclusion,, except enables to '''display''' the parameterized page, rather than transclude it.
The availability and pervasiveness of parameterized webpages in general is a strong argument in support of parameterized links. The same reasons parameterized webpages are useful also apply to wiki pages.
The availability of parameterized transclusion is an even stronger argument. It's a glaring inconsistency of MediaWiki that parameterized transclusion is available, but not parameterized links. The same reasons parameterized transclusion is useful also apply to wiki links.
Extension:UrlGetParameters provides a workaround, but there are problems with that:
- only works with "a" tag HTML links, not wikitext square bracket links, so it's inconsistent with MW standard linking.
- parameters can't be queried with standard MW syntax, eg {{{1}}} etc. Must use #urlget.
- doesn't work at all with #REDIRECT.
Example Use Cases:
- #REDIRECT with parameters.
```
#REDIRECT [[Fruit|Apples]]
```
- Linking from one wikii page to another with parameters.
- An alternative to transclusion,, where you want to '''display''' the parameterized page, rather than transclude it.
