At the top of the Watchlist isare a set of links that (ulet users edit their Watchlists, along with some Watchlist-related info. Unlike thosee links at top of RC page), these are highly related, even vital to Watchlist. Since they offer important Watchlist functions—and since we are removing the links from the Preferences page— we will incorporate these elements into the new UX, You might call them "Watchlist management" tools:saving some vertical space and providing better visibility.
- View and edit watchlist | Edit raw watchlist | Clear the watchlist
- plus a link back to Watchlist
At present, we haven't incorporated these into the new Watchlist UX. But since they offer important Watchlist functions, it seems right to do so. and there are other benefits, as I lay out below with my ideas:==Changes that need to happen
**Currently, these stand apart visually from the rest of the interface. **
- they are in a very small font—much smaller than the main interface text, for example. Which doesn't seem quite right.
**This element now takes up an entire vertical line.**
- In tests, users have shown sensitivity about vertical space; they want to get to results soonest. The Watchlist editing links will be replaced by a single button that links to the [[ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:EditWatchlist | Special:EditWatchlist ]] page.
- The button will be labeled "Edit your list of watched pages" and includes a pencil icon.
- Looking at the new design as it currently is, below—with these elements unincorporated—it appears possible a vertical line could be eliminated through integration. It seems worth a tryThe current page-top element that reads "You have x pages on your watchlist (excluding talk pages)." is reworded to say simply "You have x pages on your watchlist."
- The help links that are currently part of this statement are removed (because there is a general help link in the standard position).
- Placement: it's not clear where these would naturally be placed. But they have been at the top, and frustrating users on that point might be unnecessary. I don't think we should hide them behind a menu.
**This group currently has no title or label.**
- When you see the links at the top of the page now, there's no quick way to lean what they are. You have to read each option and piece it together.
- A label such as "Manage your Watchlist" or "Watchlist management" or might aid apprehension.
**Present the username--but where**
- Also presented at the top in the current design is the name of the user whose Watchlist this isThe current en.wiki page-top element that reads "Pages that have been changed since you last visited them are shown with a green marker." is combined with the above (counter) element.
- This is highly relevant, but not only to the watchlist management tools. Which is to say, I think we should name the user prominently. - [NOTE that this element will probably be reworded, since we will be changing the Seen/Unseen indication system on en.wiki, But the best place for the username may or may not be with these links.as per T171233]
- For example, the username may wish to group with this highly related element, which currently also occupies its own vertical line: "**You have 67 pages on your watchlist (excluding talk pages).**"
**the wording of the current links could be improved. **It's not clear what the difference between "View and edit Watchlist" and Edit raw "Watchlist" is. I propose changing to this:**
- Watchlist editing tool
- Edit raw Watchlist
- Clear the [your?] WatchlistThe current element that gives the username is removed.
Old Watchlist UX {F8887746}
**"View relevant changes" needs work.** 1) the name is just mystifying anyway, but it's especially so because 2) it is a link to Watchlist that appears ON watchlist. (So you're, like, "More relevant than my watchlist? What's that?") So:
- Reserve the Watchlist links for display only on pages that are not Watchlist. Or, maybe better, show Watchlist but show it as unavailable on Watchlist.
- Change the link language to:** Back to Watchlist **or maybe just **Watchlist**
**"Seen"/"Unseen" explainer** At present, the following element also sits near page top: **Pages that have been changed since you last visited them are shown with a green marker. **
- **Wording:** We should standardize language around that used in the Watchlist Activity filters : Unseen changes / Seen changes (as per T171127). I've already changed the language of the old "Mark all as visited" button, T171121.
- **Symbol/examples **might make this clearer. E.g., "[hollowbullet icon] = Unseen by you" or "**Boldface** = Unseen by you"
- **Placement: ** Does this explainer element belong at top, or nearer the actual results?
**Design of the related pages** Since we're not bringing the New Filters to the Watchlist management sub-pages, we probably don't want to change the design on those pages.
Is it a problem if we just leave these pages as they are?
