This is a (potentially epic) task capturing the work needed for organizing Research offsite during FY1920.
**When **
3-5 days in October-November 2019. Considering all holidays, vacations, conferences/events/trainings, etc. the following two weeks are considered:
2019-10-07 to 2019-10-11
2019-10-28 to 2019-11-01
2019-11-04 to 2019-11-07 if we're planning to be close to [[ https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WikiIndaba_conference_2019 | Wiki Indaba 2019 ]], Abuja, Nigeria
**Where **
The choice of location will depend on the following factors (in no specific order):
* Are there opportunities that by traveling to a specific city/country/region we can help the local community, chapter, user group, or affiliates in any way, especially if the ways we can help are aligned with our expertise?
* The goals of the offsite.
* The length of the trip.
* The amount of travel each person will have to do to make it to the location
* Cost of traveling to the location
Possible locations (the list may expand or shrink as we learn more):
* Nigeria and Ghana: Freedom of Panorama
* Latin America including Argentina and Uruguay (Visa can be difficult for Argentina.) Copyright conversations with a focus on history.
* Estonia and Poland. Value of data-mining and machine learning for community projects. Other EU countries with active Wikimedia Community on the public policy front.
* Hungary. Opening (monuments) lists under free license.
* India: fly several volunteers from several locations to bring a group of people together to do an ML project together.
* Kolkata in support of Bengali community: significant investment in Wikisource and Wikidata, and tools.
* East coast of the U.S.: NYC or somewhere else.
* San Francisco: with the added advantage that the team can spend some days in the office and meet colleagues from other teams.
* Berlin: to spend some time with Wikimedia Deutschland and Wikidata team.
**Goals**
To be developed with the team.
**Agenda and content **
To be developed with the team once the goals are finalized.
