As per https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Help:Sources#Databases, authority control properties shall be used in references, if the database behind is used to source a statement. Unlike normal usage of authority control properties in statements, the “Authority Control gadget” unfortunately does not create a click-able link when used in references.
