Wiktionary is a dictionary but to understand a wordget the meaning of a word, one may look at several dictionaries, it is always better to look at several dictionarieswith different point of view and methodology. Lucky us, Wikisource contains plenty dictionaries to enhance Wiktionaries!
The idea is that entries of dictionaries in Wikisource may be displayed in Wiktionaries, in dedicaded pages associated to each Wiktionaries entries. Wikisource containsDedicated pages named "Other dictionaries!", Let's connect them!accessible through a tab next to the Talk pages.
The idea is that dictionaries in Wikisource need to be properly tagged to target paragraphs with entries and definitions. Then, a new tab could be added in Wiktionaries, automatically populated by Wikisource content. SoIn order to realize this feature, for an entry "dog" in English WikDictionaries in Wikisource need to be properly tagged to delimitate paragraphs with entries and definitionary,s. every definition tagged as "dog" in English Wikisource will be displayed automaticallyThen, for an entry "chien" in Frencha new tab should be created in Wiktionary, ies. every definitions tagged as "chien" in French Wikisource will be displayed automatically. The final picture (in my dreams) is a reader that just click on "Other dictionaries" tab and a list of definitions pops upFinally, with links to the whole quoa process need to be code to automatically populated dictionaries inthose new pages with Wikisourcece content.
Other online dictionaries are multidictionaries in the same wayExample of the finite feature as dreamed: you go to English Wiktionary and look for the entry "dog". There is a tab "Other dictionaries". You click and a new page open displaying every definition tagged as "definitions of dog (English)" in English Wikisource. Then you move to French Wiktionary, to the entry "chien" (same animal). Here, you can have every definitions tagged as "definitions of chien (French)" from French Wikisource. A final move may be to look in French Wiktionary for "dog" and to obtain every definitions tagged as "definitions of dog (English) in French". This last feature may be part of a second step of development.
As examples, likethere is other multidictionaries working as suggested in this proposal: CNRTL for some Dictionnaire de l'Académie française [French Academy dictionaries] or Dico d'Òc for Occitan with 15 dictionaries.
This task was suggested during the Community Wishlist Survey 2017 and ends up with rank 52, andwith 40 support votes.
