Varnish 4 is needed to use [[ https://github.com/varnish/libvmod-xkey | vmod-xkey ]], which allows us to stop keeping track of which thumbnails have been generated for purging purposes. It's a requirement for moving to thumbor for thumbnail generation. Without it, we would have to create a new persistent store to keep track of which thumbnails have been generated for a given file.
