Change the unordered lists to ordered
Closed, DeclinedPublicFeature

Description

Most of the special pages list pages according to certain criteria.

It would be more user friendly to list them as ordered list having the next page started on proper number.

This would have at least following two benefits:

  1. It would give the imagination of amount of listed pages to user (since some special pages miss the total count - see T6394 eg.)
  2. It would allow quicker and more flexible referring to items in list (user can refer to number, which could be found quickly by scrolling, and not to certain name which is usually searched by search dialog).

What's the action item or action items here? Which pages in particular would you like to see changed? A generic bug about changing "unordered lists to ordered" can't be acted upon. Please be more specific.

Any special page which lists pages currently using unordered list.

@Puneethchanda: I am resetting the assignee of this task because there has not been progress lately (please correct me if I am wrong!). Resetting the assignee avoids the impression that somebody is already working on this task. It also allows others to potentially work towards fixing this task. Please claim this task again when you plan to work on it (via Add Action...Assign / Claim in the dropdown menu) - it would be welcome! Thanks for your understanding!

[mediawiki/core@master] Change <ul> to <ol> in AllPages

I kind of disagree. I don't think subsequent pages of results should start at 1. If we knew how many results came before on previous pages, then I would think this is a good idea, but since we don't, i think unordered lists are less confusing.

As argued in https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/473725. This isn't going to happen without significant investment to finds answers to questions like on which pages this makes the most sense, and how they should behave on any but the first page.

Change 473725 abandoned by Thiemo Kreuz (WMDE):

[mediawiki/core@master] Change <ul> to <ol> in AllPages

Reason:

I had to decline T13268 for now.
