Content Translation loads a version of the content that was in the source article when the translation started
Open, MediumPublic

Description

I am translating from Russian and the interface says:

Этот перевод основан на старой версии содержимого. Исходная страница могла существенно измениться. Вы можете продолжить этот перевод или начать его заново, чтобы использовать обновленное содержимое.

Redirect to old version, though write about new version. Before that I use this tool (Content translation) for translation this article.

My first Phabricator task.

Which article you're trying to translate? When you translate article using Content Translation, it is translated from specific revision from source article. It may be possible that source article is changed over the time, thus Content Translation will notify about it.

Hi @Arbnos, thanks for taking the time to report this!
Could you please provide steps to reproduce the problem? See https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/How_to_report_a_bug for more information. Thank you! :)

I took the liberty to rename the task and edit the description.

Basically, the user complains that an old version of the source article is loaded.

Currently, this is the intended behavior. When Content Translation (CX) started in 2014, it was loading the newest version of the source article, but in the summer of 2015 we realized that in many cases this may be problematic in many ways; among other things, it may cause losing the existing translated paragraphs. It shouldn't be this way, but that's how it is at the moment.

In the future it should rebuilt in a way that allows translating a newer version without losing data, but I cannot say right now when will this be possible.
