Revise Reply tool's discard comment dialog
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

This task is about revising the copy within the dialog that is shown when someone expresses the intent to discard the comment they started writing.

This task sits within the larger effort to make the language people encounter on talk pages is discussion-specific. More context: T241403.

Treatment
  1. Visit any page where the Reply tool is available (e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:PPelberg_(WMF)/sandbox?dtenable=1 )
  2. Click any [ reply ] on the page
  3. Start typing a comment (doesn't matter whether you're in source or visual)
  4. Click "Cancel" or press

Current treatment

  1. Notice the following modal appears:

Screen Shot 2020-07-05 at 8.50.23 PM.png (824×1 px, 199 KB)

Desired treatment

  1. Notice a model that contains the following text appears:
Title text"Are you sure?"
Body text"Are you sure you want to discard the comment you are writing?"
Primary action (red type)"Discard comment"
Secondary action (black type)"Continue writing" <-- pending confirmation from @iamjessklein

Done

  • The "Desired treatment" is implemented

Event Timeline

@iamjessklein: what – if any – changes do you think should be made to the copy in the "Desired treatment" section of the task description?

For context: people should see this modal and intuitively know after seeing/reading it how to continue writing the comment they'd been drafting and how to discard the comment they'd been drafting.

Cancel

We deliberately didn't use "cancel" as it's a double negative (cancel abandoning) which can be confusing.

I would suggest "Continue writing" as that is the verb you used in the message.

Good spot. I agree.

"Continue writing" sounds good to me; I'm going to bring this up in stand to make sure @iamjessklein is good with it.
