Event Timeline

Eugene233 renamed this task from Add support for some African Languages on WIkidata to Add support for some African Languages on Wikidata.Sep 27 2020, 1:29 PM

In which context do you want to use the languages? Labels/Description/Aliasses, Lexemes or Monolingual texts?

The following languages are already available (in all places):

  • Malagasy - mg
  • Twi - tw
  • Wolof - wo
  • Swahili - sw
  • Lingala - ln
  • Ewe - ee
  • Hausa - ha
  • Xhosa - xh
  • Zulu - zu

In addition Pulaar is covered by (but not identical with) Fula (ff).

@Mbch331 we are using in the Labels, Descriptions, Aliasses context but will time I'm sure the other uses may apply.

Does this give more clarity? @Bugreporter

This is great!

Please can I have some updates on this ticket? At least if we could have some results anytime soon or we have to wait a little longer for outcome.

@Amire80 @jhsoby Could you please have a look? :)

@Eugene233 when we have feedback from Amir and Jon we can move ahead.

The code for Ngémba is missing.

Sepedi, also known as Northern Sotho, is already supported with the code nso.

Pullar (fuc) and Fulfulde (fub) may be already supported with the ff code. If this is not OK, then perhaps this can be added, but I'd like to hear this directly from someone who knows these languages.

The rest are good to go.

Great! Thanks @Amire80 this makes a lot of sense. That said, we will put those to be confirmed on hold and proceed with the others. I will update the description accordingly.

Is anyone adding these codes? @Mbch331

I'll make a patch this weekend. Thx for the ping.
