Event Timeline

@Trizek-WMF -- I think we should plan to do this deployment in the same style as Danish Wikipedia, where we make the features available for the experienced users to try. What do you think?

It is actually the plan we agreed on. :)

@Trizek-WMF -- this is now on our sprint board for you to move across. Please put it in Ready for Development when we should deploy in dark mode.

@Tgr I prepared the NewcomerTasks.json file at https://th.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%B8%9C%E0%B8%B9%E0%B9%89%E0%B9%83%E0%B8%8A%E0%B9%89:Martin_Urbanec_(WMF)/NewcomerTasks.json. Can you review and move to NS_MEDIAWIKI? Thanks!

An abuse filter was giving me trouble so I ended up copying manually.

@MMiller_WMF @Trizek-WMF Hi, so, this is prepared now. The special page aliases should be deployed next Thursday (provided train goes by the plan). We can shadow-deploy to experienced users at any time, or wait for the aliases, up to you.

@Trizek-WMF Fyi, this is the number of tasks that will be available on thwiki:

AFAICS, there are zero links tasks. Is that a concern?

Thank you for the analysis, @Urbanecm_WMF.

The community will have the opportunity to review all links and templates, like Danish Wikipedia does.

I'm working on messaging this community, and surfacing this lack of links is deftly helping. I'm going to highlight it.

Urbanecm_WMF moved this task from Code Review to QA on the Growth-Team (Sprint 0 (Growth Team)) board.

The features were just deployed to thwiki in silent mode.

Checked `thwiki.

Please confirm that the following is expected - Special:Homepage can be enabled via Special:Preferences. I created a new user - Homepage was not enabled, but there were a message with links directing to go and enable Homepage in Preferences.

  • lots of untranslated labels
  • no 'Add link' tasks
  • no Mentorship module
  • Special:Homepage -> พิเศษ:หน้าแรก - is not found, only พิเศษ:Homepage is found. I checked for Special:RecentChanges ->พิเศษ:ปรับปรุงล่าสุด -- both (English and Thai) are found.
  • there are small visual discrepancies. I guess that's because of translation is not done. I compared with testwiki for possible regression - no regressions. I will re-check after ore translation will be done.

Translation of the interface moved from 4% to 45%. Great! :)

I've created basic copyediting page: https://th.wikipedia.org/wiki/วิกิพีเดีย:การตรวจสอบต้นฉบับพื้นฐาน

But may I ask for the original five "learn more" links in the (English Wikipedia) Suggested edits? Some links do not seem right.

Thank you!

But may I ask for the original five "learn more" links in the (English Wikipedia) Suggested edits? Some links do not seem right.

If you think some other links would be better, please suggest them. I just added the description for each task at the top of this page.

In my opinion:

@Horus, we rely on your expertise concerning which pages and templates should be used. Feel free to give us better links, if they exist. :)

For "Add a link", don't you think a page in Thai would be nicer than a one in English?

For "update an article". we followed the interwiki link. If a better page exists, please give us the link so that we can change it!

Urbanecm_WMF changed Due Date from Mar 9 2021, 11:00 PM to Mar 10 2021, 8:00 PM.Mar 9 2021, 6:16 PM

Hello, After some chat with Horus on discord I do agree that Learn more link of task Add Links should be https://th.wikipedia.org/wiki/วิธีใช้:ลิงก์ rather the currently one.

I think the reason why Add links has 0 task is because many of article that want wikilinks also has many issues that other template (i.e. rewrite-whole-article template) may apply. So in future some editor might run a bot to tag those with {{ต้องการวิกิลิงก์}} some how.

Thank you @PatsagornY.

Which other template can we use for Add links? We can have multiple templates being defined there. It would help to give work to do to newcomers, since adding links is a popular task.

Martin, I let you make the change. I guess it needs a delay to be applied?

Err, I claimed this task for no reason. :/

Those two messages were supposed to go to T276830 instead.

Reassigning for checking and communication.,

@Urbanecm_WMF what is the status of this deployment? When I monitor Recent Changes on Thai Wikipedia, I can't find any edit being made using the Growth features.

Hi @Trizek-WMF, I just double checked the status of deployment and I can
confirm the features are indeed deployed to 80 % newcomers, as intended (or
at least to *some* newcomers, as I didn’t create 100 accounts :-)).

See
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cJp9VuJ424zT6nplLES5hV_7w-WIDj9f/view?usp=drivesdk
for a recording of a sign up of my testing account. Afaics, all features
are enabled and working.

If there are no edits made by real newcomers, it probably means that the
newcomers do not use the features for some reason. Maybe we should look
into EventLogging data to see more?

I created two accounts to check, and one got the features.

Thank you!
