Shared session with DNS Hackathon 2023 in Rotterdam
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

This is a call for possible collaboration on info/skill-share if not more in relation to Wikimedia and DNS.

On the same weekend of Wikimedia Hackathon 2023, there is also DNS focused hackathon in Rotterdam with open call for proposals. https://labs.ripe.net/author/johanna-eriksson/connect-to-port-53-join-the-dns-hackathon-2023/

As quite a few Wikimedians experience issues with IP blocks and related it might be useful to have a shared hybrid session about this problem and work on possible paths to advance it. Also it could be an opportunity to brainstorm ideas of possible coordination/collaborations with networks like RIPE.

If you have any interest in contributing, attending or keeping track of this please respond and/or subscribe. It would be useful if you make your availability and commitment known (something like: I am +1 UTC timezone and happy to spend hour or two on this on the day and some pre/post work, but do not have DNS tech insights, skills and deeper understanding of work of Wikimedia stewards/tech admins).

Event Timeline

I'm not sure what this has to do with DNS

Sorry, i misunderstood. I though you meant us blocking people (via special:block). Presumably you meant nation states blocking us (via dns).

Thanks for this proposal! All proposed sessions couldn't become part of the agenda published today due to limited space, including yours. I'll ping here if a room becomes available to organize remaining or impromptu sessions.

Hello! There is now additional space available for you to schedule a session: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Hackathon_2023/Program#Schedule (See "Small Hacking Room Corner (up to 20 participants)"). If you are still interested in organizing a session, you can claim this slot on a first-come, first-serve basis. There may not be any AV equipment in this small room, just a bunch of tables, and the room might be separated from the big hacking room with a bunch of dividers.
