[SPIKE] Ensure volunteers maintain easy access to/visibility of blocked domains people attempt to publish
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

The introduction of T347531 could mean that the Extension:SpamBlacklist gets activated less often and subsequently, a reduction in the volume of log entries published to pages like en:Spam block list log and en:Blocked domains hit log.

Without intervention, the above could mean experienced volunteers/moderators losing vital bits of information they need to refine artifacts like en:mw:Spam-blacklist and en:mw: BlockedExternalDomains.json.

This task involves the work of learning and deciding how the reference reliability check implementation will need to be adjusted to ensure volunteers can retain easy access and full visibility into the blocked domains people are attempting to publish at a given project.

Decision(s) to be made

  • What – if any – adjustments will the Editing Team make to the reference reliability check UX to ensure volunteers can retain easy access and full visibility into the blocked domains people are attempting to publish at a given project?

Learning objectives

  1. How prevalent are pages like en:Spam block list log and en:Blocked domains hit log at wikis across the movement?
  2. At wikis where pages/logs like "1." names are used/available, what do volunteers depend on these pages for?
  3. At wikis where pages/logs like "1." names are NOT used/available, what – if any – analogous artifacts/practices do volunteers depend on?
  4. What side effects can volunteers anticipate resulting from the introduction of T347531 ?

Thank you to @Samwalton9-WMF for naming the value in an investigation of this sort.
