I'd just like to say that this is a really bleak picture you're painting and that I still prefer it over the previous interface.

I'm not saying it isn't an improvement over the previous interface, I'm just reporting the remaining issues as I see them. You've done the best with the APIs available but OOUI was mainly developed for VE's narrow dialog interfaces.
