Deploy InternetArchiveBot on the Cebuano Wikipedia (cebwiki)
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

The Cebuano Wikipedia is the third largest Wikipedia, with just over 2 million articles. This should be the third wiki to be deployed to.

Event Timeline

Cebuano Wikipedia? I don't see it listed as one of the top wikis on https://www.wikipedia.org or https://stats.wikimedia.org/EN/TablesArticlesTotal.htm

Edit: Never mind, just realized it's another name for Sinugboanong Binisaya.

I got it from https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/List_of_Wikipedias#All_Wikipedias_ordered_by_number_of_articles

I must point out that since you created this task just under a year ago, Cebuano Wikipedia has grown to 4.2 million articles (2nd place), but with only ~150 active editors total! Looks like Lsjbot (bot) is the main contributor, aggregating data from sources like http://www.catalogueoflife.org/, and http://www.geonames.org/. Just try using their Special:Random and you'll see most articles are largely using the same sources. For this reason perhaps IABot wouldn't be as much of use, as compared to a project with a large diversity of sources more subject to linkrot.

In my opinion we should give weight to projects with more contributors and readership, namely German Wikipedia which comes in 2nd by contributors. Needless to say you'll also have a larger crowd cheering you and IABot on :) I believe the impact of your hard work on the Cebuano Wikipedia will be comparatively very small. E.g. compare the total readership of dewiki vs. cebwiki: http://tools.wmflabs.org/siteviews/?platform=all-access&source=pageviews&agent=user&range=latest-20&sites=de.wikipedia.org|ceb.wikipedia.org&autolog=false -- German receives over 1,600 times as much traffic!

I agree. Cebuano Wikipedia needs to worry about content rot a lot more than linkrot. 99% of their external links are from the same 4 or 5 sites, so it would be better to have something like Lsjbot update them as needed.

That's a good point. So my next priorities will be with more active contributors.

For the sake of closing this ticket, the community is largely non-existent and has no bot approvals process. I think I'll just deploy to this Wikipedia in the 1.5 release.

@Lsj I commented on your talk page. Feel free to respond here though.

I'm going to skip cebwiki.
