maps.wikimedia.org errors
Closed, ResolvedPublicBUG REPORT

Description

Accessing tiles from maps.wikimedia.org fails in many cases.

The low zoom levels approximately starting lower than 5 are loaded correctly but also with some holes in the map. On zoom levels of 11 and higher only a very small amount of tiles are loaded correctly.

After one minute the server responses with an 503.

Tested from Berlin.

Event Timeline

Hi @GPSLeo, thanks for taking the time to report this! For future reference, please use the bug report form (linked from the top of the task creation page) to create a bug report, and fill in the sections in the template. How to see some error somewhere? What are clear and full steps to reproduce?

Just opening a page using the tiles like https://maps.wikimedia.org itself in a browser and looking in the network analysis tool of the browser.

Alternatively trying to load one of the tile files like https://maps.wikimedia.org/osm-intl/12/2194/1341.png directly. This error page had the following additional info:

Request from 2003:d3:1700:9b00:2870:b1ec:a591:aeb1 via cp3063 cp3063, Varnish XID 239210303
Error: 503, Backend fetch failed at Tue, 19 Apr 2022 18:07:39 GMT

The message is the same for other files only Varnish XID and, of course, the time are different.

This seriously affects Wikivoyage projects. All Kartographer-based maps are now empty...

Works for me without problems here, getting served by the European datacenter... :-/ Same for the provided link (thanks!):

Update: Now it works fine for me too.

It looks like it works now for me as well.
