bios defaults on new hardware orders
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

there were a couple of takeaways in T111080: rack & initial setup of elastic2001-2024 with respect to default options we should get for new hardware orders, in particular:

  • legacy bios should be enabled by default from the vendor not UEFI (related T93208: (U)EFI support)
  • power settings/profile, I believe we have discussed this in the past too (e.g. I believe HP defaults to "Balanced Power and Performance")
  • all disks should be presented individually, unless we know we are going to hardware-raid the disks

possibly others? I thinking of these two in particular since we end up doing that ourselves anyway, especially the UEFI default prevents pxe-boot out of the box

Unless we order systems racks at a time, vendors don't pre-set bios defaults. We'll have to set these ourselves.
