Displaying main space categories only in main space articles
Open, LowPublic

Description

Seeing that some sandbox pages have categories that should only appear on main space articles, I was thinking of using a bot to put them inside "nowiki" or "comment" tags, but someone on the French community talk page had the idea to let MediWiki do the work.

In fact, it would be better if MediaWiki could recognise if a category is part of the "category:main space" or "category:non-main space" and display it only if the page is in the main space or not.

As the problem occurs in all Wikipedias, and even in all wikis, I wonder if it is possible that MediaWiki do that.

Regards.

After years, this task haven't been reviewed by anyone?

@SyntaxTerror: What kind of "review" would you expect from who? If nothing is unclear and if nobody has planned to work on this, why should there be any activity? :) See also https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Bug_management/Development_prioritization for more info.

@Aklapper : thank you for your answer, but frankly I don't know, nor do I know how many people are working on tasks, how many tasks are on the list, what priority means, who can change it, etc.
I was just surprised to see this task (that I wrote years ago and that I found back by looking into my MediaWiki contributions) no given a priority yet.

So, is that "low" priority seems okay to you?

You can bring it back to "triage" if you want, I don't want to rush anyone (the one who would need to be rushed to learn programming is me! but I guess I'm probably too old, or more certainly too lazy for that...)

Ah! :) I don't think people always set Priority, so low seems realistic, yes...
