Although there has been some mailing list and blog communication of the new use of current events items on the apps, we should more clearly and directly post on the talk pages of the portal that this content is being consumed in this new way.

Hello, my name is Josh Minor and I am the manager of the iOS app for Wikipedia. I wanted to let the editors and readers of the portal know that the In the news items are now available in the Explore screen on iOS, as they have been on Android for a couple months.
The iOS beta is also piloting a push notification option for users. If the user is interested, the app will notify them of new In the news items which meet a pageview threashold.
This kind of content notification is a new concept for the Wikipedia apps and for the items you publish on the Main page, and we look forward to hearing from you and our users whether we should keep it, and how to make it better.
