Commons-hosted pages appear as redlinks after login/logout
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Author: broken.arrow

Description:
When logging in/out from an image description page, the 'returnto' message contains a redlink (&action=edit) if the image is hosted on Commons. Returning to the previous page requires manual fiddling with the URL.

Even if the page does not exist in the local wiki, the user might expect the same behaviour for all pages, i.e. being given the chance to return where one was before going through Special:Userlogin or Special:Userlogout.

Version: 1.12.x
Severity: minor

There is a similar problem problem when a new page is created with a link to an
image hosted on the commons. The auto-generated summary creates a red link
(with &action=edit). See for example the first edit on
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Highway_87_%28Israel%29&action=history

This is not specific to auto-generated summaries, it is true for every edit summary – see bug #5506.
