Archive and close Wikibooksnl-moderator mailing list
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Please archive and close the mailing list that was set up for the admins of Wikibooks-nl (https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibooksnl-moderator) . The list has come in disuse, and there's community consensus that the list can be closed: https://nl.wikibooks.org/wiki/Wikibooks:Lerarenkamer#Moderatoren

Event Timeline

Done.

I just ran the script we have for that:

@fermium:/usr/local/sbin# ./disable_list wikibooksnl-moderator
/var/lib/mailman/data/heldmsg-wikibooksnl-moderator-15.pck
wikibooksnl-moderator disabled. Archives should be available at current location, all mail should be moderated and the list should not be on the listinfo page.

(There were only 3 test messages from 2006 in the archives anyways)

Dzahn claimed this task.

Thanks @Dzahn . There seem to be two actions left though - not sure if you can pick that up too. As I don't have the admin password, I can't try to do it myself:

  • Add notification on description page that list is disabled.
  • I still receive notifications that there's a message in queue for moderation. Is this a matter of clearing the queue, or that something went wrong?
  • As a test, I got a return message that sending is not permitted. That sounds good, but it would be even better if it said 'this list is no longer active'.

If this is stuff I can do on the backend, resetting the admin password and giving me that (I'm one of the admins, even though I requested to be removed a while back), would be fine too. Thanks!

Hey @Effeietsanders,

re: description page: Ok, but note that while it exists the listinfo page is not linked to anymore (list is gone from https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/ But you can change HTML as you like on https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/edithtml/wikibooksnl-moderator )

re: queue for moderation: Yea, that's normal. You can delete it from https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/admindb/wikibooksnl-moderator closing the list does not delete pending requests at the time of closing

re: return message: I'm not sure if the content of that emergency moderation message can be changed, but if it can then you can do it via the web ui.

Hope you understand i try to stick to the shell script we have for closing lists and leave the rest to list admins.

I reset the admin password, you should have received automatic email with a new random password (all people who are currently listed as admins). Feel free to remove yourself from the admin field after you're done with this.

Thanks @Dzahn .
I changed the webinterface, thanks for resetting the password.

Maybe as suggestion for improving the script at some point (when someone dives into it anyway), you could perhaps consider changing the moderation message and description of the webpage as well, and empty the moderation queue. No urgency though, so more a long term thing.

I'm marking as resolved.
