Feature /Wishlist request:-

The page here https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Page:UKSI19810859.pdf/43 contains a series of figures for traffic signs.

Currently to display these inline requires that the relevant images be extracted from the original page and uploaded seperately.

Would it be possible for there to be a version of the File: syntax which permitted the image displayed by that syntax to be a suitably cropped portion of the relevant parent image, provided that the source image used was in an appropriate raster format?

Having such syntax would make it easier to provide relevant figures or portion in many works on Wikisource without necessarily having to extract individual figures directly as at present.

Other possible use case would be :-

• Drop initials (Wiksource)
• Title Banner image generation (Wikivoyage)

Amongst others.
